“No giving up when you're young and you want some”

I saw Mika last year with some friends and he was phenomenal. The concert was out of control...i'm talking Tranny's, blow up dolls, glitter and giant balloons. I was completely in love with the first album and was thrilled to hear about his new record. I instantly fell in love with his new song.

“We are Golden” is upbeat, funky and fun. In my opinion, Mika can do no wrong...especially when he adds a cray cray choir to a song (like he did in "We are Golden").

I first fell in love with the sexy power pop singer song writer when I heard "Happy Ending" off his debut album, Life in Cartoon Motion. It's an incredible song and definitely deserves a listen if you get a chance, but for right now...you must listen to his new song. I have included a link to the music video and the lyrics are below.

WE ARE GOLDEN

Teenage dreams in a teenage circus
Running around like a clown on purpose
Who gives a damn about the family you come from?
No giving up when you're young and you want some

Running around again
Running from running

Waking up
In the midday sun
What's to live for?
You could see what I've done
Staring at emotion
In the light of day
I was running
From the things that you'd say

We are not what you think we are
We are golden, we are golden.
We are not what you think we are
We are golden, we are golden.

Teenage dreams in a teenage circus
Running around like a clown on purpose
Who gives a damn about the family you come from?
No giving up when you're young and you want some

Running around again
Running from running
Running around again
Running from running

I was a boy
At an open door
Why you staring
Do you still think that you know?
Looking for treasure
In the things that you threw
Like a magpie
I live for glitter, not you

We are not what you think we are
We are golden, we are golden.
We are not what you think we are
We are golden, we are golden.

Teenage dreams in a teenage circus
Running around like a clown on purpose
Who gives a damn about the family you come from
No giving up when you're young and you want some

Now I'm sitting alone
I'm finally looking around
Left here on my own
I'm gonna hurt myself
Maybe losing my mind
I'm still wondering why
Had to let the world let it bleed dry

We are not what you think we are
We are not what you think we are
We are not what you think we are
We are golden, we are golden

Teenage dreams in a teenage circus
Running around like a clown on purpose
Who gives a damn about the family you come from
No giving up when you're young and you want some

Running around again
Running from running
Running around again
Running from running

We are not what you think we are
We are golden, we are golden.

Enjoy!!!!

“It couldn't have happened anywhere but little old New York”

After a fabulous few days away, I am finally back to my computer…and I’ve missed it. I spent a few days up at the Cape with Miss. Lee, where most of the day was spent watching True Blood…( which everyone should be watching) and the crisp evenings were spent sipping Pinot. For the first time this weekend, I smelt fall in the air and it was pure bliss.

I then traveled up to visit the ferocious Miss. Maia and was lucky enough to have a few fiercely delish cocktails with some Fairfielders ( MO and KM) and the soccer players. I also had a brief lunch with Miss. Healy this afternoon and while it was rushed, it only enhances what I already know…that I miss her terribly. I had a nice trip, but here is the thing…Boston is a great city, but in my opinion nothing compares to New York.

That city will always have my heart.

New York is incredibly magical. From the Kebab station outside Grand Central (he is fab) to Central Park, New York is full of endless possibilities, random encounters and most importantly, LOVE. It’s also filled with wacka-doodles and overpriced real estate, but that is all part of it's charm. (Disclaimer: this post in no way expresses the extent of my love for the city.)

I’m about a week away from starting a fall internship and I could'nt help but begin thinking about my love affair with NYC on my 4 hour train ride home from Boston today and then it happened…I was creating my very own “soundtrack to my life” on my IPOD, while having a movie style, mental montage of my fave NYC moments, when all of a sudden an email came in on the Berry from Miss. Healy. It was a link to a blog from Daily Intel.

…and it’s called: The Ex-Banker Living on Alcohol, Hookups, and Unemployment

To quote Rachel Zoe, “I DIE”

Read it and make of it what you will…

Who knows how much it is embellished, but I laughed out loud on the train so much that I was positive they were going to ask me to leave the Amtrak “Quiet Car”

At the End of The Day, live it, love it and visit it because, “It couldn't have happened anywhere but little old New York”

If only I could be a Disney Princess...

This time last year I was packing for college…

Now I’m sitting at my kitchen table next to a box of Cinnamon Toast Crunch, compulsively checking my g-mail account for any semblance of a job offer.

At this time last year I was positive that I would be employed in NYC, working at my fabulous job saving for my feroshhh APT…

Where am I 365 days later?

Still searching for that opportunity to present itself. Many of you know that I spent my Senior year interning at the most fabulous network in the world. I met scores of celebs and even purchased Brit Brit a Frapp... It was the highlight of my life. Now, I sit at my kitchen table, blackberry and Diet Snapple in hand hoping…no…praying that something works itself out. Long gone are the days when I felt accomplished after waking up at 4:30, commuting, working all day, going to class and still finding time to indulge in some Pinot…now I feel accomplished when I wake up before 10 and drag myself to the Gym. I walk on the treadmill with the hopes that I will find my true passion in life amongst the sweaty and sketchy crowd at P-Fit.

Maybe something will inspire me?

…Probably not, but in the event that it does. I have now made the conscious decision to carry around a notebook with me, with the hope that at any moment, I could be struck with a plan… or so that I can write down the funny things I witness on a daily basis.

Today’s funny visual…

A man resembling a Jonas Brother Bodyguard BBMing on his Bright Pink Burberry on the LIRR.

My CURRENT plan…

It’s Wednesday and I’m headed to the Cape for a quick rendezvous up North with Miss. Lee. Maybe the cool breeze and the drinky dranks poolside with conjure up some ideas about my future.

If anyone has any suggestions…please feel free to provide me with them.

Not many of you actually read this blog, but I’m inviting those of you who do to suggest a career path for me. Right now I’m choosing between Disney Princess and working at J.Crew….

I'm not that innocent...

The tickets have been ordered and the t-shirts have been made...In a few hours, I will be sitting at MSG watching Ms. Britney Spears lip-sync her way through Circus, If You Seek Amy, and hopefully a fabulous rendition of “Oops I did it Again”.

I have been waiting all summer for Brit Brit to come to town. I think she finally has her shit together and as far as I can tell, she hasn’t shaved her head again. She hasn’t dropped a kid, driven her car erratically or even shown up at a gas station sans-shoes, so I think she is doing pretty well...However, sometimes I remember the times when Brit Brit was much more “Tragic” and it’s those times when I think back to when she first sauntered her way into our hearts…

I remember the first time I heard Brit Brit. I was in middle school and "Hit Me Baby One More Time" had just been released. Within weeks, Britney had become the Princess of Pop, where she reined as its ruler throughout the late 90’s and early 2000’s. Sure, others tried to emulate her Golden Locks (Mandy, Jessica and Christina…I’m talking to you) and her killer dance moves, but there was something about Britney that no one could touch. Maybe it was her sessy boy band lovah; JT…or maybe it was the constant rumors of boob jobs and stolen virginity. No one really knows. Ferocious in every way, Britney charmed her way into the hearts of Tween’s everywhere.

From Tokyo to Tennessee, girls and boys loved her. Hit after Hit, from Lucky to I’m a Slave 4U…Brit Brit appeared to have it all, movies (Crossroads), platinum albums and gazillions of dollars. However Brit Brit started to slip…

She changed her image from school girl to sexed-up nympho at the VMA’s, stripping her outfit off to reveal a nude body-suit with strategically placed sparkles, She strutted across the stage carrying a boa-constrictor around her neck, all while lip-synching “I’m a Slave 4U” and she kissed a girl…

And then it all went down hill the year she had a quickie wedding in Vegas to her childhood friend (Jason Alexander). Then came the marriage to K-Fed, Oops Baby #1 and #2, and her failed attempt at a reality show (Chaotic). Before we knew it, Brit Brit was binging on Frapps, Shaving her head, checking into a padded cells and dating Paparazzi….BUT…I still loved her. I love crazy Britney as much as I love sane Britney. Without her, I wouldn’t have had years of music filled bliss, dance parties would be way less fun and People Magazine would have way less cover stories.

I had the pleasure of seeing Britney perform this past December on her Birthday and she was phenomenal. The dance moves are no longer exceptional, but in the words of KR, she has perfected her “Walk with a purpose”. I saw the kids, brought her a Frapp (I’m not kidding, I actually did) and watcher her slither her way down the stairs of a makeshift circus set. It was pure perfection.

Call her what you want, but she is an ICON. So tonight, when she takes the stage I will look out at Britney and think about all the great memories she has provided me with. At the End of The Day, she is Britney Spears and she has once again reinvented herself and stolen my heart. So, put on your pleather jumpsuit or your schoolgirl skirts and fasten your seatbelts...I’m positive that tonight will be another fabulous ride on the Brit Brit Circus train.

It's HERE!!!!!!!!

It feels like my birthday and Christmas all rolled into one.

The Fashion Bible has arrived (THE September Issue of Vogue), I am all packed and ready for Swagfest and my OPI Mani/Pedi in Russian Navy looks Fierce. I am ready to take on NYC, for a night that will surely go down in the history books. I can’t quite be sure of what cray cray things will go on tonight, but I am hoping for a few of these…

1. The theme of the night is BOMOPOGO or Black out, Make out, Put out and Get out… I am really only hoping for the MO part of our fabulous slogan courtesy of RJ.
2. Not to run in to Dennis/Derrick and his Facebook Girlfriend.
3. Russians to go along with my nail polish, but only for KR!
4. To find a few Plus 1’s. A few of us have some very exciting weddings in the next few months and we have started our searches early. So if you know anyone in the NY area who has any of the following characteristics, please give him my phone number.
a. No criminal record
b. Wears glasses
c. Is employed
d. Is single

5. Dance it up to songs like …Evacuate the Dance floor, Down, Knock you down and Turn my swag on.
6. Skinny Dip in the Marriott Marquee pool….ok that one is a serious stretch, but a girl can dream?
7. Have a fabulous weekend away with the girls!!!!

At the End of The Day, BE fierce, BE Fabulous and Have a fantastical weekend!!!

Red-Velvet

I would marry red-velvet cake and our love story would be epic. We would run away for romantic holidays and grow old together...

Red-velvet is the perfect cake. There is no debating that fact AT ALL. I challenge anyone to find me a more phenomenal combination of flour, sugar and food coloring! Smothered in cream-cheese icing, sprinkled with walnuts, dusted with powdered sugar or eaten plain, red-velvet has a way of making me feel cozy and at peace with the world. I remember the first time I ate red-velvet. The fantastic KR introduced me to it and it was a match made in fat kid heaven Ever since that fateful day, I was hooked. So I set out to create the perfect recipe and to be honest…I think I did it! What I love, is that it can be made into a cake or cupcakes… or just eaten raw off the beaters (no judging…it’s that fantastical).

Here you go…

* 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
* 1 1/2 cups sugar
* 1-teaspoon baking soda
* 1-teaspoon salt
* 2 teaspoons cocoa powder (Chocolate? Yes please!)
* 1 1/2 cups vegetable oil
* 1-cup buttermilk, room temperature
* 2 large eggs, room temperature
* 2 tablespoons red food coloring (this can be substituted for 2 tablespoons of any color depending on your preference…I made a blue cake once, but it definitely didn’t taste as delish as it did when it was red. Its like attempting to eat purple ketchup…it’s still ketchup, but it never quite tastes the same)
* 1-teaspoon white distilled vinegar
* 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

This is how you make it…

Directions:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees…I’m well aware that with baking it’s all about the technique, but lets be honest I just really love food and I don’t think food is all that finicky about how you prepare it…at least my red-velvet isn’t. I don’t sift flower and I don’t use 10 different bowls to “incorporate” the dry and wet…there is no need. Just start by putting all the dry ingredients together and then slowly add the wet in one big mixing bowl…end of story. Pour evenly into 9-inch rounds or cupcake trays. I would say 20 -22 min for cupcakes and about the same time for the cake.

There are a few ways you can ice this sweet and decadent treat…

Powdered Sugar (simple and easy)
Container of pre-made vanilla icing…super simple and delish
Plain and simple
Or my favorite way…

CREAM CHEESE FROSTING

* 1 pound cream cheese, softened
* 2 sticks butter, softened
* 1-teaspoon vanilla extract
* 4 cups sifted confectioners' sugar

Directions: Mix it all together…duh!

At the end of the day, I’d rather be chubby with a tummy full of red-velvet, than be skinny and hungry. Enjoy!

XO,

AC
This is not my red-velvet cake, but its what it should look...doesn't it look yummy?

Silly Suppers

My posts are usually more upbeat. Tomorrow I will be back to talking about fashion, my awkwardness and food. However, today is about Jessica.

Tomorrow morning marks the day that my oldest friend Jessica will make her trip to Mexico to be placed in a Ketamine Coma. Her mother has started a blog that describes what Jessica has been going through the past 3 years. She is suffering from Jessica is suffering from neurologic Lyme disease and Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD) Please read her story and show your support to the family. They need it!

http://www.hopeforjessica.blogspot.com/

This post does NOT even begin to explain how amazing she is. Words can’t describe it. During a time when all I want to do is cry, these are the memories that make me smile…

I’ve known Jessica since I was months old and although she is a grade below me our birthdays are only 4 months apart. We met at the park and were friends from the moment we met in the sandbox. I remember her birthday parties, her Sweet 16 and the countless sleepovers we had. I remember playing with Polly-pock-its and Beanie babies. I remember garbage hunting (with our red radio flyer we combed the neighborhood the night before garbage pickup and collected some crazy things, like the Christmas wreaths) and our insane attempt to apply our own fake nails (they were blue and had clouds on them). I remember dance parties in her basement, the time I flew off the swing-set in her backyard landing in the bushes and picking Figs. I remember pancake breakfasts and the terrible sunburn we got one year at the beach (we spent the entire night applying aloe to our backs while we watched Girl, Interrupted). I remember the creation of the Best Friend book and the Teddy Bear we stuffed at the mall before the invention of Build-a-bear. I remember the Pizza dinners, the invention of Silly Suppers (breakfast for dinner), summers at the pool and the time we thought it would be a good idea to drink Slim-fast (it was gross). I remember the birthday party where I have a picture wearing her fathers Firemen’s helmet and the time we went to see the Nutcracker in our fancy party dresses.

I also remember when she moved to Florida in High School and I cried so hard every time we passed her house, that my mom and dad took the family to Florida for our summer vacation. It was a great vacation.

Sure, I have tons of memories, but I want more. I want to see her graduate college and watch her get married. I want to have pizza dinners and pancake breakfasts and I want to be able to grow old with my oldest friend. I’m praying that with her trip to Mexico, she can begin to regain her health.

It’s easy to complain about things that go on in our lives. I do it all the time, but we all must take the time to realize how blessed we are because. At the end of the day, it could be a whole lot worse.

XO,

AC

At one of our many sleepovers. I believe the next morning we ate corn muffins and pancakes.

Can I bribe you with food?

Maybe I can get the construction workers to stop making all that noise, put some clothes on and actually chat about me in English if I bring them a peace offering. I’m thinking Biscuits!

Here is my recipe for the best biscuits ever. They are easy and a secret family recipe that has been passed from generation to generation

...ok that's a lie. They actually come from the back of the Bisquick box, but everything always tastes better when you say its a family recipe.

All you need is…

2 1/4 cups Original Bisquick
2/3 cup milk

All you need to do is…

Heat the oven to 425 degrees. Combine the ingredients (all 2 of them!) and drop them into little mountains on an un-greased cookie sheet.

It only takes about 8-10 minutes and they will be golden brown.

My momma has been making this for me and my brother since we were little. Once you learn the consistancy of the dough you can make one Biscuit or the whole box. Add Chocolate Chips for a warm and gooey surprise in every bite! My mom always makes us a glaze as well. It's included below.

If you want a Glaze…

Slowly add milk to a bowl of confectioners sugar until it makes a smooth, yet pour able icing.

Here is what the end product should look like.

Enjoy!!

Current Mood: Hostile and hungry

At around 8:11 this morning I was woken up by the most HORRIFYING sound coming from across my tiny peaceful street. My neighbors have decided to do some tacky and tasteless construction on their house so that they can fit more sticky and annoying children.

This woman walks her children on a leash! I would suggest they stop procreating or adopting. The world does not need anymore of your satanic offspring!

Here is my problem, it sounds like I live in Hempstead, and I’m afraid that if I go outside I will be dodging bullets. It’s a loud, scary and construction filled world right outside my front door…and I DON’T LIKE IT! As a means of therapy, I have constructed a letter to my hammer-wielding visitors…

Dear Construction Workers,

Please stop making my neighbor’s house ugly. It is ruining the neighborhood and so are you with your loud banging this early in the morning. It sounds like shots are being fired as you re-roof the house and I’m never sure if its safe to wander out to get the mail.

I would also appreciate it you wore a shirt once in awhile. I understand it is hot, but you are not! It would be really nice for you to keep your middle aged, tattooed, beer belly underneath some sort of garment.

I would also appreciate it, if you didn’t sing Cascada karaoke style outside my house before noon…or like ever! This isn’t American Idol. Watching you dance on 2x4’s to German techno makes my eyes and ears bleed. Also, could you please hurry up with the construction? How are you always napping or dancing? Fix the house and leave my quiet little street in peace.

Once last thing, if you could not stare at me when I’m walking my dog that would be awesome! At the end of the day, you make me uncomfortable when you chat about me in Spanish. I CAN understand you.

Love always,

AC

Dear Lady on the LIRR...I'm sorry I laughed when your duffle hit you in the face.

This morning I was riding the LIRR and witnessed some poor woman living her very own FML moment. She was tossing her duffle bag up onto the top rack when it came flying back at her, smacking her in the head, knocking off her glasses and catapulting her body into the man sitting across the isle. She looked HORRIFIED…and what did I do?

I laughed.

I laughed loud enough for the whole train to hear me…

This type of thing happens to me on a daily basis, so when it actually happens to someone else I find it hilarious. I can’t even begin to remember all of the times I have been smacked in the head by a duffle bag, magazine or another human being (that actually only happened once…but it resulted in a broken nose and a bruised ego at summer camp in 8th grade…instead of catching the football to impress Harrison Briggs, I caught some kids head with my face and proceeded to bleed profusely all over the field.)

Anyway…after witnessing this poor woman’s horrendous start to the day, I thought I would share one of my favorite clumsy commuting stories…

The incident happened on my way home from my internship last summer. I was running through the streets of NYC, attempting to fight off hundreds of Nikon wielding, Asian tourists on 34th street and I was in a dead sprint for the train. I had about 4 minutes to make it and it wasn’t looking promising. It was about 750 degrees and I was sweating like a prostitute in church. My brisk walk down 34th street became a run. Down the stairs, through the hoards of people…I’m was thinking I might actually make it!!!! I found my track and headed in the direction of the stairs, the last call notification was being made as I sprinted towards the 20 or so stairs that stood in between me and a crowded, yet air-conditioned train car. Down the steps one by one I ran.

Then it happend…

Half way down, I trip and tumble the remaining 10 steps...

In front of the packed 5:33 train…

The passengers gasp AND POINT as my dress flips up and I come to a rolling stop at the end of the stairs. The doors close, but I can still see the whole train starring at me. The train pulls away…I hate my life. While it was mortifying…I’m over it. Bruised, sweaty and laughing I make my way back up the steps and wait for the next train.

If you trip... I will laugh. And next time I fall down…I hope laugh at me!

5 Things to FALL in love with!

These are the 5 things that are currently on my Fall wish list. I doubt #2 and #3 will never be purchased, but I can dream can't I?

1. Men’s Blazer- I love they way they look with a pair of slightly distressed jeans. Meant to be worn long and cuffed at the sleeves, I think it’s the perfect addition to my Fall wardrobe. My favorite I have seen so far is the J.Crew Long Boyfriend Blazer $215. With perfectly cuffed sleeves that expose tie silk, the blazer can be thrown over a white T for a classy, but casual ensemble. I'm picturing them with my skinny's and black patent Tory Reva's...

2. Chloé: Paraty leather tote- I fell in LOVE with this exquisite leather carryall when I saw it at Intermix this past weekend. Can I afford it? Hell no, but I can dream. It could be worn over the shoulder or hooked under the arm.

3. Christian Louboutin: Very Privé 120 peep-toe pumps- Ferocia Coutura…Very high, super sexy and cray cray overpriced. They are the perfect black peep-toe…I will never own a pair. With the amount of times I fall daily, there is no way in hell I am spending that much money on a pair of shoes…but they are just soooo pretty to look at!
4. Long Cardigan: Anyone who knows me can tell you I have more cardigans than Mr. Rodgers, but these are definitely my favorite for Fall and I will be stocking up! The J.Crew Forever cardigan comes in 11 colors and at 89.50 it’s a bit expensive, but no worries, flash your student id for a 15% discount and call it a day. I might get one in ever color…unfortunately I pay full price (damn you expired StagCard!!!)

5. Classic White T: To be worn under my Men’s Blazer, Long Cardigan and just about everything else in my closet. Hanes makes a fabulous featherweight white t-shirt and at $18 you can’t go wrong.

I definitely can't afford most of this stuff, but at the end of the day I can dream of the perfect wardrobe...until then, there are always Sample Sales!

Shalom

With words of encouragement from the super FEROSH KR, I have started my first blog.

I apologize in advance for the rambling sentences, random capitalizations, made up words, the occasional Shalom, and the all around haphazard nature of my blog. Welcome to my life…

Lets start at the very beginning. I’m 21 and I just graduated from college (YAY ME!!!). I also I decided to start this blog because when you are unemployed, 21 and awkward like I am, randomly hilarious stuff tends to happen to you…Like the homeless man on the E, Dennis/Derrick or almost getting hit by a bus while BBMing.

Plus, now that I don’t have a job, I have all the time in the world to bake new treats and create yummy recipes...all of which I will share.

Since I graduated about 3 months ago I have had some time to soul search or “sit on my butt and watch CSI on Spike” as Paula reminds me everyday.

These are some things I have learned after college…

1. I still love my friends from H.S. and that will never change.
2. I miss living with friends...P and R are the most fantastical parents ever, but on occasion I feel as if I’m wearing one of those leashes that overprotective parents strap to their 3 year olds with ADHD.
3. Macaroni and cheese does not taste as good at 12:30 p.m. that it does at 12:30 a.m. when made with your superb roommate KC
4. I’m pretty lucky to live somewhere that is close enough to NYC… Thank god P and R didn’t settle in Middle America.
5. Now that the credit card bills come to the house and I see them every month, it is a terrible reminder of my need for a job aka I need to spend less time at J.Crew and more time at P-Fit!

Who cares if I’m unemployed and single…I’m not going to let that get me down! At the end of the day there are still tons of boys out there (maybe even some of them wear those plastic glasses that I find so adorable), plenty of recipes to try and countless adventures with Paradise that need to be had.
